How about you, you, you?
Yesterday was a day to never forget at our house. To start it off, Randy took the day off. As of Friday morning, he was going to work President's Day. Luckily, I can thank his boss for telling him to take the day off and spend the day with the family. We have a season pass to the zoo so we decided to head down there for the day. And it has kind of become tradition to eat at the Mayan and catch a dollar movie while we're in town.
We headed out at 10:00. First stop: the zoo. We all agreed it was the most exciting trip to the zoo EVER! Animals that were previously thought to have been wax statues, came to life. Every animal, even the bears, were up an active....with the exception of the penguins. What's up with that?! We had intended to only be there for a little while, but it was so exciting, we stopped at every animal. The highlights: the mountain lion, red panda, the baby giraffe, the leopard, and the orangutans.
We left the zoo around 2:00 and headed for the Mayan. I guess everyone else had the same idea as the wait was 1 1/2 hours. We were much too hungry to wait for that, so we headed for the theater to find somewhere quick over there. The kids voted for Panda Express and Randy, bless his heart, consented. Randy dislikes two things: Chinese food, and fruit with his chocolate.
After linner (what we call it when we don't want the kids to expect eating again before bedtime.)
we went to see Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium. It was cute- the parts that I saw, anyway. It was kind of like sacrament meeting...
"I'm hungry."
never mind the fact we just ate...
"I'm thirsty."
here's your water bottle...oops, there it goes, rolling to the front of the theater....
"Moooooom..."
that was it, just wanted to hear their own voice...
"I need more candy!"
so the candy you already sneaked wasn't enough, eh?...
"I have to go to the bathroom."
it would have to be in the LAST FIVE MINUTES of the show...
After the movie, we HAD to go to Leatherby's Ice Cream Parlor- right next door. It took about 20 minutes to decide on what to order. We knew we couldn't order each person their own sundae- they were huge! So we were trying to figure out something that everyone would like. We finally decided on a banana split (remember, Randy loves chocolate, but not with fruit...what a guy!) and some caramel praline sundae thing. I should have brought my camera in, because that was the biggest banana split I have seen! Everyone got what they wanted, and it was gone in 5 minutes flat!
Our plan worked beautifully, and Nathan and Emma fell asleep on the drive home. They were so worn out that they stayed asleep when we got home and made the transfer to their beds. By 10:00 everyone was out cold (even Hannah..) That very well may be a record!

I've always wanted to go to the Zoo in the winter...maybe we'll have to venture down there one of these Saturdays. And I'm with Randy...I hate chinese food, and fruit and chocolate just don't go together well.
What a fun day! I have been thinking about taking the kids to the zoo, this might just be the encouragment that I needed!
