50 Years and Counting

Gordon and June

For time and all eternity June 25, 1959

This week was a celebration at our house. We celebrated my parent’s 50th wedding anniversary. Most of the family was here and we thoroughly enjoyed the time spent together and the memories we made.

We started at the water park on Wednesday. I’m pretty sure my kids could live there and be perfectly happy growing gills.

Thursday morning we headed out early to the salt lake temple. It was neat to have my parents stand on the very steps they posed on 50 years prior. But even more special was entering the room where they were sealed for time and all eternity. Later that day, the entire clan toured the Oquirrh Mountain Temple before its dedication.

Friday, Randy hosted one of his famous Pinewood derbies. After a few minor modifications- and some small adjustments to the cars ;) we were on track. (Pun intended.) Grandma and Grandpa fed us all (thanks guys!) and surprised us with a slideshow of family pictures; many of which I had never seen before.

Saturday culminated in a Luau at our house. Complete with Kalua pork and a full Hawaiian spread, it was heaven. We took a break from the festivities to capture a family portrait at a local park. Upon returning, we broke out the shave ice machine (on loan from my good friend.) and other desserts.

We presented my parents with a scrapbook of pictures over the last 50 years that coincide with the Proclamation. It turned out nicely (if I do say so myself!)

Kickball was played until dark while some sat and chatted on the patio, enjoying the company.  My kids and I were not ready for the night to end as family started packing into their cars.

So today, one last hurrah was in order before the last of the family traveled home to resume their lives.  We gathered for some delicious ‘Dole whip’- famous in two of my parents’ favorite spots: Disneyland and Hawaii.

Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!

We Love you.

A Sweaty Brain

Nathan plays hard. The simplest activity turns into an aerobic workout.

After a game of catch, he came inside for a cool treat and a little break from the now- summer temperatures. Sweat dripped from his drenched head to Randy’s shirt as he rested on his daddy’s shoulder.

He commented on the soaked status of his daddy’s shirt and his own scalp. He suggested that perhaps it was caused by a rain cloud directly over his own head while he ran around the yard fielding the baseball.

We tried to explain that it was sweat- from his own body. He thought maybe it was spit. And then the light bulb came on…AHA!

“Probably it’s from my brain!”

I'm Sick

No, I'm not feeling under the weather, but thanks for thinking of me.

My tween daughter and her friend gave me a lesson in today's lingo. We were riding in the car when they started singing, "You'll be the prince, and I'll be the princess...."

I immediately recognized that to be the lyrics to the one and only Taylor Swift song I know.

Me: "Is that Taylor Swift?"
Hailey: (totally in shock) "How do you know that?!!!"
Me:" 'Cause I'm hip like that."
Friend: (read with sarcasm)"...uh, yeah, cause people say 'hip' all the time... "
Me: "Oh, yeah. OK, 'I'm tight.' "
Hailey: "That word is so yesterday."
Friend: "You're supposed to say, 'You're sick.' "
Me: "But I feel fine."
Friend: "You're sick means: you're cool."

I have a lot to learn.

A New Do

I got my hair cut yesterday. I was needing a change. Something drastic- but not too much so.

And Randy didn't even notice.

Missing: My Mind Camera Charger

I can't find my camera charger.

It typically resides in my bedroom of all places. So, today I set out to find it among the piles of odd things stashed there. Our bedroom becomes the 'hot spot' as Fly Lady would call it. When things need a temporary home, they end up in our master bedroom. If one pile begins, it becomes a magnet for other piles. And before I know it, my room has been totally consumed by orphaned objects.

Take a peek at the things I encountered on my quest today....

...an empty storage container, and a lid to an AWOL bin.....

.....a dart board...what else would we do for fun at night?....

...a snowboard that needs returning to its proper owner...

... FOUR bags of PTA junk to be sorted....

...Two Mervyn's gift cards....a lot of good those will do now....

....an extra shelf from our closet...

...miscellaneous items from emptied pockets....

...paper pieces from the kids' latest stint with the shredder....

....anonymous sunglasses left in the Jeep after a Boy scout campout....hmmmm...

...a bag full of school projects to be filed...

....two bags of baseball equipment + a box of field paint.....

....my good ol' St. Patty's Day pin I made in the 1st grade...yes, it's been on my dresser since March.....

...snowboard helmet, some Cub Scout stuff, and a T-shirt- all to be returned different places.
...a printer, a scanner and various cords and cameras- all to be donated....

.....two basketballs on a bookshelf....
....and the charger to my OTHER camera.....
I DID, however, find:
.....the missing blue pillow from my bed....under my bed.......

....Emma's missing shoe. In the old church bag of all places.....
....the pack of gum I bought the other day, and couldn't find. It was behind the computer for safe keeping from pilfering hands.....

....a cookbook, a yearbook, and The Camp Rock DVD....Emma and I really wanted to watch it the other day....

And last, but certainly not least:

...my Better Homes and Gardens 'Secrets at getting Organized'......
I still can't find my charger.

Argh!

There are a gazillion things I could/should be doing (including finishing the posts about Nathan and Emma's birthdays and the many end-of-school activities.) But instead, I took full advantage of this Sunday afternoon and scrapped a page. Yes, you read it right! I know I said I had given it up, but someone has inspired me to not fully throw in the towel. Not to mention, my computer had a recent overhaul and I now have hard drive space and my Photoshop is once again up and running.

P.S. The WordArt is from here. I just love her stuff!
